2019 Staffordshire Engines Steam Gala

The 2019 Steam Gala will feature a number of home fleet and visiting engines, all built in Staffordshire!

On Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June 2019

Featured Engines

Visiting Baguley Cars Ltd “Rishra” from Leighton Buzzard
Resident Kerr, Stuart & Co. Sirdar “Diana”
Resident Bagnall “Isabel”
Resident Kerr, Stuart & Co. Wren “Lorna Doone”
Resident Hunslet Wren “Jennie” (Subject to completion of overhaul)

More engines may yet be announced so keep your eyes peeled, it’s going to be a great event this year.

We had hoped to have Kerr, Stuart & Co. Wren “Peter Pan” joining us from Leighton Buzzard, but due to the overhaul overrunning he unfortunately won’t be able to make it. However “Jennie” one of our resident engines looks to be returning to steam in time for the gala.

Things to see and do

There will be an intensive service of freight and passenger trains all day and locomotives will be regularly swapped around to give you a chance to have rides and get photographs with all of the engines.

There will also be shed tours, where you can see our fleet of diesel engines and steam engines that are currently being maintained by our team of volunteers.

We open our gates at 08:00 on the morning of each day so you can join us in the yard to see our volunteers lighting up the locomotives and cleaning them in preparation for the day ahead.

Our fields and new Picnic Area are open for you to explore and capture pictures of the train in our excellent countryside and field railway environments.

Waterhouses Signal Box will be open for tours, see the ex North Staffordshire Railway signal box from Waterhouses now it has been lovingly restored by our volunteers.

Ticket Prices

As you can imagine, our Steam Galas are a little more costly for our charity to run, due to this, our “single” tickets are only valid for 1 full circuit on the railway. This includes a trip up to the Picnic Area, with the option of returning on a later train.

We feel the best way to experience our gala is with our day tickets, these enable you to travel all day, as many times as you like.

Adult Day Ticket – £8.00
Child Single Ticket – £4.00

Adult Single Ticket – £3.00
Child Single Ticket – £2.00

In the case of events such as this, the locomotives are subject to their availability. Lots of these engines are very old (Isabel is 122 this year!), and as such require a lot of work, care, and attention to keep them going. In the event of a locomotive becoming unavailable, we will endeavour to update this page as soon as possible.

Free Bus Service

This year we have been very kindly offered a lovely Leyland Leopard bus, owned and operated by Bob Duffill, that will be running a regular service to and from Stafford Railway Station on Saturday 29th June only.

At Stafford the bus arrives and departs from the lay-by on the opposite side of the road to the railway station, near the corner of Victoria Park.
At Amerton, the bus arrives and departs from in front of the farm house at the car park entrance.
