E.E Baguley No. 2085 “Golspie” – First Start
Wednesday 24th April is now an important date for Golspie. At 2:36pm Lawrence Hodgkinson, the engineer currently working on Golspie turned the engine over and started it for the first time for over 20 years.
There is still a lot more work to be done on this iconic 78 year old E.E Baguley steam-outline (aka “Pretender”) diesel mechanical locomotive, but this is a sure step in the right direction to have her hauling passenger trains once again.
To get the wheels going round, the linkage for the forward and reverse gearbox needs straightening, and the multi-speed gearbox which drives the axles needs some extensive repair work as it is quite badly damaged.
